For a young Brazilian boy, flying a homemade kite is much more than an amusement – it’s an outlet for dreams yet-unfulfilled.
Pipas is a self-contained vignette from the film Sou da Bahia [I’m from Bahia]. This observational film is paired with the lyrical voice-over musings of an 11-year old Bahian boy named Jhonatas. The rich visuals of the environment root the viewer in a very distinct time and place as Jhonatas daydreams thoughtfully while guiding twigs, paper, and string through the evening air.
